{The non-cliche way to be} the lady in red

I just recently discovered The Creative Closet linkup hosted by Jana and Maegen and I love participating in their weekly outfit ideas.  When they announced their December lineup though, I wasn’t sold on today’s post {which called for lady in red}. I mean, lezzbehonest.  My closet is all greens, blues, teals and neutrals.  I have one red shirt but I really don’t even like to be that girl at Christmas who wears red to every event. Scratch that.  I try to avoid cliche Christmas red at all costs. But red shoes?  Mmm… I love this little pop of color and the… Read More

{Weekending} Christmas decor

When we’re kids, the word “learn” is so closely associated with school that we kind of attach this negative connotation it.  But the problem with school is that too often we have to learn things that we’re not passionate about.  And I’m saying this as a college-educated woman who is now a high school English teacher and someone who puts a high value on education. But the older I get the more I realize that when I learn something that I’m passionate about, it’s so much fun.  {I may or may not have squealed in delight more than once this… Read More

Friday favorites: the winter warmth edition

In the winter time, a great outfit starts with a great jacket!  Here are four that I can’t live without because they keep me warm and cozy but they look great, too!  {And that is what we call a favorite around here!} {ONE} the black + white You can’t got wrong with this one.  It’s the easiest way to make black pants look interesting.  And then a bright scarf?  Boom.  You’ve got an outfit! {TWO} the casual This one is brand new this season.  I’ve needed a new causal jacket to wear with jeans and tshirts {and yoga pants!}.  This one… Read More

Our {love} story: the party

I’m going to let pictures tell the story, but first… How beautiful is that space? It absolutely exceeded any expectations I had.  When we were reception shopping, I kept telling mom that I didn’t want a ballroom.  I didn’t want the traditional hotel carpet and chandeliers. Which naturally prompted her to ask, “Well, what do you want?” I don’t know.  Something different. Easier said than done, right? So when we found this place on Martin Luther King, Jr. in January of 2010, I knew that this was it.  It was EXACTLY what I had been looking for.  {Plus, it fit in… Read More

December goals

Happy December!  It’s so hard to believe we’re here.  Less than one month left in 2014.  The Christmas season is one of my favorite times of the year.  Everything feels so festive and celebrated! Let’s do a quick recap of my November goals… 1.  Devotions: I’m still enjoying this as a part of the morning routine.  This month, I’ve been working through a study on the book of Ruth and I’ve learned so much about this story that I never knew! 2.  Memorize a new verse: Colossians 3:23 is an especially good reminder during the busy seasons of life. 3.  Continue… Read More

Holiday sparkle

This look is so simple to put together for a party.  I mean, I’d love to show you some glamorous cocktail dress but lezbehonest, that’s not my party gear.  My group of friends is more like sweaters and flats… we like the practical life.  So, this is one of my favorite looks. How great is that jacket?  My sister has had it for at least 2 years so getting it back kinda makes it feel like its brand new.  #score Check back later this week for a whole post dedicated to great jackets. A basketball game, a road trip and 2 Thanksgiving meals

It’s great when the weekend starts on Tuesday, right? The day right before a break is always chaotic.  This one was a bit more hectic than I had imagined. Tuesday was the first game for our basketball girls.  I sat down during warmups and thought, Oh man.  What have I forgotten?  What if we’re not ready for this?  I commented to an assistant coach if we could score and then get into our press, we’d be fine. They were ready.  We ended up with a final score of 50-11 and had to pull off the press after the first quarter because… Read More

Ask Claire what to wear

Happy Monday morning, friends!  {Yes, that may be the only time you ever hear me say “happy” in front of Monday morning.  But two-day work weeks do crazy things to me.} And… I’m blogging in front of this festive view. {But it looks way better on instagram because of the cool filters.} So if I don’t have 5 posts up this week it’s because I decorated.  And watched basketball.  And football.  And I’m gonna enjoy some downtime while celebrating Thanksgiving with the family. But I do have more than just ramblings for today. I was thinking of pretending that I’m actually a… Read More
