2014 | A year in review

There are some things I have really enjoyed since I’ve entered the blogworld.  One such thing, is making my monthly lists.  But over the past few weeks, I’ve also noticed that bloggers review their year.  So I’ve been excited to join in and do the same.

{January}

We rang in the new year with Katrina and Angelo.

Every night we hang out with them is great.  But it was the first year since 2009 {our first in Newton} that we didn’t spend NYE with Scott and Sarah.  I’m excited to hang out with both couples on Wednesday night.  A low key night in with great friends, a few bottles of wine… sounds like heaven, if you ask me.

But back to 2014.

In addition to tons of basketball and David starting grad school, we managed to sneak in a volleyball tournament to watch Kenz and a supper club outing to the local tavern.

These are my favorite people.

And then I turned 27 {and everyone thought David gave me the flowers} and it snowed at the end of the month.

{February}

This was filled with another supper club sesh and a super bowl party supporting Peyton Manning.  We still love him even though the Broncos got drilled that night.

A date night, more snow and a Tar Heels trip to Carolina made the month busy!

February also marks the end of basketball season.  It’s bittersweet.  Goodbye girls and hello life.

Our last game of the season, we came back from an 11 point deficit in under two minutes.  And if you’ve ever watched basketball, that’s an accomplishment.  If you’ve ever watched JV girls basketball, that’s unheard of.

{March}

On the 29th, David turned 30.  I had planned to do 30 days of 30 to celebrate this big occasion him getting old.  I didn’t do a very good job planning ahead so it was more like 6 days of 30 but hey… some people only get one day of 30, right?

This is what happens when you ask old people to take your picture.

The icing on the cake was his surprise party.  I lied to him for at least a month and then we had so much fun surrounded by his favorite people that evening.

IMG_0818 IMG_0822 IMG_0860 IMG_0835 IMG_0837 IMG_0841

But it wouldn’t be fair to include March without mentioning two epic days…

IMG_0940 IMG_0749

That time my parents bought wine {those of you who know them know what I’m talking about… epic} and that time we went to watch the State Championship game… and the outcome was the best thing you could ever hope for.

{April}

This month was full of the basketball banquet, prom, Mom’s birthday and spring break.

IMG_0946 IMG_1014 IMG_1017 IMG_1018 IMG_1020 IMG_1053 IMG_1056

Since David was finishing up a huge grad school paper, we had a low key affair for the first half of the week and then went to Blowing Rock with Kaitlyn and Andre for the second half of the week.

And this is just a really good hair selfie. Hey, when you’re me, you gotta celebrate good hair days.

{May}

David finished his first semester of grad school and we celebrated Brooke’s first birthday.

IMG_1181 IMG_1192

Obviously, you have to go eat Mexican on Cinco de Mayo {and pay $9 for a margarita… oops!}

IMG_1417 IMG_1418

Another supper club dinner and we braved the lake for the first time.  Our nephews turned 1 and 3 so we celebrated with a double birthday party.

{June}

June means the end of school and the beginning of two weeks in Chapel Hill for basketball camp for David.  But before he left, we managed to sneak in a couple of graduations, a pool day, and the completed the wall collage!

While he was working hard, I was busy living the Florida life with my family.

IMG_1649 IMG_1651 IMG_1659 IMG_1676 IMG_1681 IMG_1683 IMG_1686

After leaving the beach, I went straight to beach trip number two.  Being a teacher is hard work, let me tell ya.

IMG_1711 IMG_1738 IMG_1743 IMG_1744

{July}

After two weeks at the beach, I made a shirt to wear on July 4th, helped run basketball camp, we celebrated our anniversary and went to the lake a few more times.

IMG_1888 IMG_2026 IMG_1865 IMG_1848 IMG_1841 IMG_1846 IMG_1786 IMG_1763 IMG_1753We also went to the beach with Katrina and Angelo and since you know all about that trip, I’ll spare you the details again.

IMG_1912 IMG_1924 IMG_1974 IMG_1949

It was also on that trip that I began to move forward with Fashion + Feathers.

{August}

I jetted to Winston for the day to help mom complete her bathroom reno, we checked in with the nephews in Chapel Hill, went to Greenville to see Kenz play for the first time, supper club monthly rendezvous, squeezed in a few more lake days and the blog actually went live.

All this before school started.  #Augustisexhausting

{September}

September brought another Greenville trip, the completion of the world’s most frustrating project, tacky day at school, Kaitlyn being featured on the blog along with her spray paint dresser tutorial, and Coppy meeting Peanut!

{October}

Megan came back for another visit {and by that I mean that team greatness was reunited} but somehow there are no pictures of our day trip to Asheville on my phone.

And that’s probably because basketball gears back up in October and my brain turns to mush.

{November}

We invited Megan back to run the 5k with us.  And by run, I mean that I did some interval training of walking + running.

IMG_2719 IMG_2720 IMG_2723 IMG_2725 IMG_2755{December}

We decorated for Christmas, visited the Biltmore to reminisce when David proposed, made some freaking cool pillows to complement the Christmas decor and coached in our Christmas sweaters.  Because we’re cool like that.

IMG_3001 IMG_2982 IMG_2885 IMG_2887 IMG_2884 IMG_2810

There are tons of things I missed in this review because it was from my phone… which has a mind of its own sometimes.  But we were so blessed in 2014 and I can’t wait to see what God brings our way in 2015.

And now I see why people do this in multiple posts.  Whew.

    This may be my favorite line in this post “After two weeks at the beach, I made a shirt to wear on July 4th…” LOVE IT! Love the shirt! Love you!

    • And you know that was only because you were here with all your cute, patriotic gear and made me feel all crafty!

  • Sarah

    Glad we can get back to our New Years Eve tradition this year! :)

  • Great year!! Love these posts!! I’m a little jelly of all of your beach trips! My Claire was teeny this year so we didn’t get to go! But, it is on for 2015!!

    • It’ll be so worth it this summer. My boss {who was brand new at the time} made a comment about how many beach trips I went on and how we were getting paid too much. {Disclaimer: two public school teachers doesn’t exactly account for too much money.} The great thing is we already had the time off from work and two of the beach trips included free places to stay and the other one… we went super cheap.

  • SUCH a big year!! I can’t believe 2014 is pretty much over!!

    • How is that possible?

  • Carolyn Campbell (Grandmother)

    Claire, love the year in review blog. Didn’t you and Dave have lunch with me and Granddaddy in 2014 when you came to our house? Where’s our picture of that day? I bet no one made one, but I remember having you here and we loved it. Let’s do it in 2015 and make pictures. !!

    • Yes we did! I always forget to take pictures. That’s the story of my life. But next time we’ll have to take pictures for sure so that it can be forever documented!
