February goals

In some ways, I’m in awe that we’ve already made it through January.  In other ways… bring on February!  Mondays are usually spent recapping the weekend and linking up with Biana and Meghan.  But let’s be real, there’s not a lot to recap when you don’t do a lot.
{But I did feature some of my favorite pieces from The Mint Julep Boutique on Saturday.  What’s that?  You haven’t entered the giveaway yet?  Get on it, girl!}

Before jumping in to the goals for this month, lets take a quick look back at January’s goals.

1.  Devotions – even on the weekends.
Ehh, not great.  When we did take the time to do them, it was mostly because David initiated it.  I’m still working on this.  Add it to February.

2.  Memorize a verse.
Love I Corinthians 13:2.  It probably would have made more sense to memorize the LOVE verse in February but it was given to me in January so…

3.  Make a new recipe.
Yes!  Crockpot chicken taco bowls were such a hit at our house.  Delicious and easy… make them at your house!

4.  Enjoy life.
Honestly, January felt very stressful.  David started grad school again, Bible study started back up, I transitioned into a new semester and basketball is still going strong.  Sometimes I feel like I’m just constantly doing what I have to do to get by.  I don’t like living that way.

1.  Make a new recipe.

I know this gets added every month but it really does motivate me to have it documented.  Plus, I’ve found some really great meals as a result.

2.  Devotions – even on the weekends.

Obviously, since this isn’t a part of the routine yet, it’s still getting added to the monthly list.  I think on the weekends, I’m guilty of not getting out of the warm bed until the very last possible second.

3.  Advertise F+F on other blogs.

I’ve thought about doing this, just haven’t proceeded to make it happen yet.  Have you had success with a specific outlet of sponsoring?  I’d love to hear about it.

4.  Have a unique Valentine’s celebration.

Confession.  I’m soooo not a Valentine’s person.   I’m the girl who purposefully chooses not to wear red and pink on that day.  {Or actually, most any day.}  I hate those chalky candy hearts that say things like, “FAX ME.”  {Really, was that ever a popular way to communicate your love?}  I think red roses are hideous and I HATE how all the single girls mope around like since they don’t have a lover, on this one day, their life is obviously ruined.

So all that to say, I wanna do something fun this year to celebrate.  Not the cheesy stuff but really just an excuse to do something out of the ordinary.  {Because, at the moment, just spending time together is a bit out of the ordinary.}  Biana posted some really great ideas here so I’ll probably just steal some of hers.  Because who has time to come up with their own when this list is just so great?

5.  Get the house/my life in order.

My house is not organized or clean like I want it to be.  I have a stack of stuff at work that should have been taken care of two weeks ago.  I’ve lost my keys/phone more than once in the last month.  Go. go. go.  As much as I love basketball season, my life kind of needs to slow down.

  • Great goals girl!! I think making a new recipe should be the easiest one just because there are so many great ones out there and also so many link-ups that share recipes lol! I think growing your blog by sharing your button will be great exposure for you!! Can’t wait to see you kick butt with these goals! xo, Biana – BlovedBoston

    • Thanks, B! I get really bad about just making the same things on repeat so it’s been great to force myself to make something new!

  • Amy Ann

There is something about sharing these things publicly that makes me more accountable. Sounds like you did well!

    • Me too! It forces me to get so much more accomplished. Glad to know I’m not alone.

  • Great goals!! I need to start making a new recipe too! And crockpot recipes are the best because they require so little effort. Definitely going to try that myself this month! Happy Monday!

    • I love my crockpot so much! Although sometimes it’s difficult to make time in the mornings to fix it, it’s soooo worth to come home and have dinner waiting on you.

  • Girl I hear you on sometimes feeling like you’re just doing what needs to get done to get by. I’m in a period in my life where I’m feeling much like that myself. I think I should probably try to start making some new recipes too–we’re in such a food rut!

    • I get in food ruts big time because I only like to make things that are easy and I know we’ll eat. But this one new recipe a month has been perfect for me. I can’t do lots of new ones every month but I can manage one. Sometimes getting out of the rut in one area makes the others more doable. You got this, girl!

  • Sounds like you did alright in January. I know you’ll rock out February!!!

    • January was a beast so I’m hoping February slows everything down a bit.

  • These are great goals! I try to read Devotions every night and am remembering most nights! I want to sponsor/advertise on other blogs as well I just don’t know how either!

    • I’m trying to learn all this blogging stuff!

  • You have great goals this month girl! I would love to get my house organized, but I feel like as soon as I finish one room and start another one, the last one is a wreck again. lol! Toddler terrorizing! lol

    • Haha, I feel like that and there’s not even a toddler in this house! It’s the never-ending cycle.

  • Good luck with your goals! Your views on Valentine’s Day perfectly described me. I’ve never really gone crazy over it. The “fax me” made me laugh out loud. I wish that had a been a way that people communicated romantically haha. “uhhh Bob your wife says she loves you…again” I’ll be at a rodeo this year with a girl friend on Valentine’s Day this year.

    • A rodeo with a girl is the way to go! In college, we always used to go do something fun for Valentine’s day. And seriously… fax? I’ve never understood that one.

  • Great goals! Good luck with everything this month! I generally hate valentines day too but it’s a Saturday this year so I feel like I should at least try to do something fun. Definitely checking out that post you linked to. Let me know if you figure out anything for advertising, it’s something I want to get into soon so any tips or tricks will be super helpful!

    • I will! Hoping to figure it out in the next month or so. And with Valentine’s day, I think that’s why I want to make it fun. Usually it’s just another day of work and the daily grind. But a Saturday… that changes everything!

  • Good luck with everything this month…you have some great goals to accomplish! I love the “fax me” comment…you are totally right! Haha.

    • Thanks, Shannon. Now let’s just see if I can do better than last month. And, fax me? Really?

  • Girl, you nailed it with number 4 about Valentine’s Day. My boyfriend has already been warned that I don’t want anything cliche and I don’t want to do anything cliche because I’d much rather stay home, order some pizza, watch a movie, and relax than dress up go out to some fancy shmancy dinner that won’t taste as good as pizza. I was never one of those single girls who moped because to me it was just another day, oh and I’m not a huge fan of chocolate which I think is unheard of haha. I also am not a huge fan of roses! I thought I was the only one!

    http://www.jerseygirltexanheart.com

    • Amen. I think that’s what I hate about it… the cliche aspect. David and I had been on a few dates when Valentine’s rolled around and I gave him this list of rules. I wouldn’t go out with him if he gave me roses… and now I can’t even remember what else was on my anti-Valentine’s day list. Lol, but seriously… it’s just another day!

  • I’m with you on trying to figure out how to continue growing my blog. I am thinking of advertising, too! Love your February goals and I second your thoughts. Can’t believe how fast time is flying but may as well embrace it!!! xoxoxo

    • Let’s learn together! I also noticed your updated URL so you must be doing something right!

  • I’ve never thought about making a montly goals list but it is a great idea! Making a new recipe sounds a lot of fun but the most important here is definitely to enjoy life. Have an amazing week Claire!

    • I never did it until I joined the blogging world and I kept seeing all these posts about what people were planning to accomplish that month and I then it just seemed so natural that I had no idea why this was the first time I had ever thought of it. So now I try to do it every month and it’s actually one of my favorite posts to write. It holds me accountable, I guess. If you’ve never done it, you should try it!!

    • I never thought about it until I started blogging and saw that everyone else was doing it. Now, it’s one of my favorite things about blogging because it forces me to set some goals. Hope your week was great!

  • Not a fan of Valentine’s Day myself. Every year all the old(er) ladies in my office ask what I/we have planned and every year, I tell them the same thing: Nothing! My husband is generally gone from the week before V-Day till the week after. It’s just us and the pups when he’s not on the road most of the rest of the year. We don’t need a day. However, I DO kind of wish that he was not on the road 2 days later when it’s our date-iversary. But I’m a grown up and can suck it up and live through it :) Great goals! -Dorrie @ Bear Den Plantation

    • Yeah… it’s pretty low key at our house, too. Will he be home this year since it’s on a weekend?
