Ringing in 2015 + a little more

Yesterday morning I told David I could live my life in Christmas break mode all year long.  It was the perfect amount of busy and free time.  Because if I get too much free time, I get so bored and wish there was something going on.  And over break there definitely was.  It was busy.  It was busy with things and people I love.

But we’re back into the swing of things.  So here we go!  Let’s make it a good one!

Our New Year’s Even was laid back and perfect.  Here’s a few pictures we snapped as we celebrated.  We decided that our very own Battle of the Sexes was the perfect way to end 2014.  Every game was girls against guys!

On New Year’s Eve, I was scrolling through Pinterest looking for cool ways to incorporate champagne.  {I’ve been living the last-minute life recently, so why stop for NYE?}  There’s ton’s of cool ideas and drinks but I kept getting frustrated because everything I would click on was like 17 ingredients and 89 steps.  #aintnobodygottimefodat

So, I finally clicked on a link that said if you put Rock Candy in champagne it makes it look really cool.  I had to run to the store anyway, so I added rock candy to my list.

David laughed at me when I told him the last thing on my list was rock candy.  He told me to drive to Boone and get it from the Mast General Store.  After buying Pop Rocks {closest thing I could find} we hit the road.  Then he really laughed at me.

Good thing Megan came to the rescue.  When she asked what she could bring to the party, I answered with, “A cleaning service because I really want to take a nap this afternoon.  Oh, and rock candy.”

After convincing her I was only {half} kidding about her cleaning my house and she really didn’t need to bring Clorox, she did manage to show up with Rock Candy!

And in other news…

Friday was a huge conference game against a rival school for my basketball girls.  JV came out with a win and varsity made a huge comeback and came up just short.  It sucks to lose but it was great to see them play with such intensity and heart.

I know I talk all the time about how basketball takes over my life during the season.  Because, really, it does.  No time for anything, it feels like.  But I love it and that’s why I do it.  It’s so much fun to watch the girls grow and do things that they’ve practiced.  It’s fun to watch their competitive side come out.  It’s fun to watch them become teammates.  And it’s so rewarding to walk away with a W.

Who cares if I don’t have time for other stuff?  I can do it the other 8 months of the year.

Any Jamberry friends out there?

I went to a party in early December and got to try it out.  I was so excited to try it out but skeptical that the nail wraps would actually last for 3 weeks. The good news?  It passed with flying colors.  I only used the sample ones on my ring fingers but I ordered a few designs and I can’t wait to try this phenomenon on all 10 fingers.

In case you can’t tell, this was my third polish color and it’s really chipped.  The nail wrap has grown out but still looks perfect!

The other night, I posted on Instagram about my perfect night… which obviously included a little F+F work.

And a glass of wine.

I’ve had some time to learn a little bit more about blogland.  I was able to put a button on the right side of my homepage.  I’ve had it designed for a while but I had to look up how to do the coding.  David laughed at my excited squeal when it finally worked!

I’ve been brainstorming some new ideas for stuff around here.  I’ll keep you updated as the pieces start coming together.

I have so much fun learning all this new stuff.  It’s not where I want it to be but it’s a step in the right direction.

Speaking of learning stuff, I also have been doing a little more designing.  Here’s a save the date I created for a former student.  {Yes, it makes me feel old.}

I also forced myself to undecorate this weekend.  I was sad to see everything go because I loved it so much.  The living room feels kinda dim without the tree tonight.

Kenzie, Ryan and Payton came to visit us on Saturday.  It was so much fun to hang out!

Ahhh, I just love weekends.  And Christmas break.  And the fresh start of a new year.

Happy Monday!  Make it one to remember.

  • I have a love hate relationship with design work on my own blog. It’s so time consuming and I have NO IDEA what I’m doing–but when something actually works it makes me feel like I’ve never felt before!! My design is so stinking “simple” looking on the blog now, but it’s done 100% by me which makes me feel proud! I love your new years eve and your hunt for rock candy. And thanks–now you’ve made me miss the Mast General more than I should!

    • I love your design. It’s actually one of the first things I noticed when I found you. Or, when you found me. I love that it’s done by you. And I agree, when you get something to work, it’s a great feeling. I think it has to do with the trial and error – and for me, way more error than anything else.

  • Yes! Yes! Yes! I could totally live Christmas break style all year long. Waking up at 5 am was such a struggle this morning. Oh well…these next 2 weeks are a weird/easy time. We came back to finals so I still have my 1st semester kids until the 15. Those drinks look so fun!

    • How can we make the Christmas break life last longer/forever? I have first semester kids too and you’re right it’s not to bad but that alarm this morning!!! Oh man…

  • What a fun NYE!!! Rock candy is a genius and easy idea although I’d have a hard time finding it too!! Love your party nail girl, sadly those never work for me but I love how they look on everyone else!! Happy Monday and hope you have a great start to this semester!! xo, Biana – BlovedBoston

    • The rock candy was a fun twist on things. It flavored and colored the champagne. This was my first attempt with jam berry and I was really happy with it. Considering I ordered 4 more, I hope they work too! Hope you have a great day!!

  • I LOVE Boone and Mast General Store. Husband and I used to ride his motorcycle up to eat at the Ham Shoppe- my legs were always on FIRE by the time we got back to Tennessee! The champagne drinks look so cute with the rock candy in there. Isn’t it so fun when you figure out something new when it comes to blogging?!? I get so frustrated with it sometimes, then when it clicks, it’s fantastic!

    Happy Monday!!

    • Where do you live in Tennessee, Dorrie? I was born in Knoxville and lived there until I was 10. We still have lots of family there. And yes, learning new bloggy stuff is my favorite! Hope you have a great day!

  • It looks like you had a great New Year’s Eve celebration. I love Christmas break as well but I’m kinda glad to be back to the regular routine. All the holiday preparations and festivities left me exhausted. Wishing you a great 2015! ~Cynthia | http://www.myrosecoloredshades.com

    • Yeah, we had so much fun! I can’t really say I was quite as ready to jump back into the regular routine as you were but it’s here and I’m jumping whether I was ready or not 😉 Cheers to 2015, Cynthia!

  • Your NYE looks so much fun! You look great! Good luck getting back into the routine. It can be so hard!

    Thanks for linking up today!

    • Thanks, Ashley. Hope your Monday was great!

  • We have a low key NYE too and it was perfect! I love the idea of rock candy in champagne, how cool!

    • I love NYE, especially when it’s spent with the besties. Hope the start of your 2015 has been great!

  • What a fun New Years Eve! I love the pop rock drinks! It looks like a lot of fun! Wishing you a successful start-up to the new year! LOVE the blog! Keep up the good work girl!

    • Thanks, J. Glad I found your blog and linkup recently! Cheers to the beginning of the new year!

  • What a fun break! I was telling people that I finally felt like a normal human being for those 2 weeks. This was the most relaxed and refreshed I’ve ever felt! Glad you felt the same! P.S. my husband coaches soccer. His feelings are EXACTLY the same as yours. So, you rock on girl! xoxo

    • Yes, can we get that human feeling back? I miss it already. Tell your hubby I’m glad to know there’s another coach out there who feels the way I do. Where does he coach? At a high school?

  • Hey dear! What a great post! Looks like you had a fun new years eve – and OMG I love the idea of the rock candy in the champagne! That is such a fun idea! I love the design you did for your past student too! Lovely!

Thanks so much for joining J and me for our Celebrate Southern Linkup! I am going to pin your post to our official pin board and then I’m going to read more of your blog! Keep up the good work! Cheers!

    • Thanks! I was excited to find your linkup :) The rock candy turned out to be really fun NYE idea.
