{Saturday surprise} Three in one

{one | an award}

Kelly at Familiar Joy nominated me for an award that I didn’t even know existed.  Cool, right?  {Thanks girl!}  Kelly has four adorable kids and she posts lots of great family and fashion ideas.  She started blogging a couple of weeks before I did  and found me through a comment I left on Shay’s blog.  She’s also a teacher and coach’s wife.  {No idea how she does it all!}  She was the first follower {at least that I knew of} that wasn’t a friend or family member.  {So, she made me feel like a real blogger.}  And you need to check her out!

The Liebster award {I found this out after I did some research} is a way to show some love to some of the smaller blogs out there.  Basically, you answer some questions that your nominator asks and then nominate other bloggers.  {I noticed there were lots of “rules” out there but lets just go with what she did.}  I love a little Q&A.

Except… she asked really hard questions!  I’m struggling with these.

     1. What is your favorite item (to wear) in your closet?

See!  I told you this was difficult!  Do I really have to stick to just one?  Ok, ok.  If I had to pick just one item that’s my favorite, right now I would select jeggings.  Because they’re so comfortable but they can be dressed up for a night out.  Perfection, right?

2. What person has inspired you the most in your life?

Oh my gosh.  And I thought the last one was hard?  Once again, a really tough one because so many people come to mind.  But there is one who stands out more than the others… David inspires me every single day with his work ethic, positive attitude and caring spirit.

He works so hard every day at work… and let me tell you, his job is no cake-walk.  But he never lets that stop him from helping me… whether it’s being an assistant coach for JV girls basketball, cleaning up after dinner, he even cooks me spaghetti once in a blue moon.  When he knows I have lots of things I want to get done, he’ll ask me what’s on my list and start doing some of the tasks.  Which usually means he vacuums up all of Copper’s hair.

He rarely lets anything get him down.  He might get frustrated and discuss it with me, but he doesn’t let it affect all the areas of his life.  He always sees the best in people and situations.  I have really tried to learn from that because I’m not always prone to be positive.

On the same note, he really cares about people.  And he’s good at expressing that.  People feel special around him.

     3. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This one I actually know.  Homemade chex mix.  Not that store-bought crap.  Actually, I think I’m going to make some in the morning.  If you’ve never had it, Google the recipe and make it.  You’re missing out.  I’m actually not sure how you’ve been able to live this long without having some of this deliciousness.  {Stop reading and go make it.  Just kidding.  You can finish this post first.}

     4. Where is your favorite place to vacation?

I’ve spent every summer of my life going to Panama City Beach, Florida.  {I take that back.  The summer we got married, the fam went down while we were on our honeymoon.  But other than the summer of 2010, I’ve been every year.}  We have made so many memories as a family down there.  We spend the days at the beach playing kan-jam, floating in the ocean, reading books, and of course playing a little beach volleyball?  The nights are spent at our favorite restaurants or eating in and watching sports and the bachelor/bachelorette.  Sounds like the perfect vacation, right?  Here are a few pictures from Florida life over the years…

If we’re talking mountains… Blowing Rock is it for us.  We know a guy who is kind enough to let us stay at his house once or twice a year and we seriously have had some of the best weekends of our lives up there.

     5. What is your biggest fear in life?

I don’t really think of myself as a fearful person but I’m definitely scared of the dark.  I used to make Kenzie go outside with me if I had to get something out of my car at night.  I was in high school and she was like 7.  I don’t know what it is about the dark but my mind just starts playing tricks on me and running wild and I imagine a snake slithering by or a creepy man jumping out of the bushes.  I mean seriously, I don’t know why… nothing scary has ever happened to me in the dark.  And I never think twice about it during the day but the dark just does it to me…

And to keep the tradition going, I nominate two of my favorite bloggers.

Kerrie at Snow Five Hundred is one of my high school friends and she’s brand SPANKIN’ new to the blog world so y’all show her some love.  She has the coolest idea… her family has a “bucket list” of 500 things they want to do in the next 5 years… before the oldest goes to college.  Plus, blogging allowed us to reconnect… so you know I’m loving that!

I just found Cassie at Mason Jars & Peanut Butter and she has all kinds of great date night ideas as well as yummy recipes.  I actually don’t even know if she knows I exist but I really adore her blog so check her out too!

Here are your questions, girls!

1.  What is your favorite thing to blog about and why?
2.  If you could change one thing about your life what would it be?
3.  Describe a perfect day you’ve experienced.
4.  What is your favorite holiday to celebrate?
5.  Share your favorite quote.

{two | blog consultation}

Helene Consultation

So… I had a blog consultation this week with Helene.  She gave me direction and I’m so glad I spent the money to do it.  She asked me to fill out a questionnaire, she researched my blog, then we scheduled a one hour Skype consultation. During our conversation, she told me some things I could do to better my blog.  She was so fun and friendly during the whole thing but at the same time, she was honest with me.  I love that in a person!  {And I secretly wish I was more like that!}  Then she emailed me a list of what we had talked about.  Basically a to-do list with links and instructions… and you know how much I love lists!

So… anyone who is looking for new ways to grow their blog and want some feedback from an expert… I completely recommend her.

{three | thankful Thursdays}

I’m such a believer in the power of being thankful.  I have this idea to do thankful Thursday posts in November.  Just writing about thing{s} I’m thankful for.  Anyone want to join me?  What are your thoughts?  I originally wanted to do a linkup but I don’t think I have enough followers to start that yet.  Are there any linkups like this that you know of that I could jump in?

    Love your Saturday Blog! David is my inspiration too! What fun to read your choices and look at the pictures. Thanks for sharing and I am looking forward to Thankful Thursdays this month. I am thankful for you in my life and for all of my wonderful grandchildren (which you are one).

    • Thanks Grandmother! I’m thankful for all of your support!

  • Okay, I really don’t know how many followers you have, but when I link up at the lauren elizabeth I get completely overwhelmed and only click on about 5-10 links. Maybe it would be nice to have only a few links and to be able to check them all? I would definitly join in, I think it’s a great idea!

    • I only click on a few blogs through big link ups as well. If I get more people interested, I’ll let you know and we’ll do it for sure. Even if I don’t, you should definitely post your own version of thankful Thursdays!

  • Cassie

    You are so sweet! I have been following you since you commented on my blog a couple weeks ago and I’ve been loving your space here! Thank you so much for the nomination – you made my day!
