Remember this top?  I love it so much that I featured two ways to wear it.

Well here’s where it all started.

Last spring-ish, one of my friends was bringing some clothes over to ask my opinion about whether she should keep them in her closet or give them to Goodwill.  All of the pieces she asked me about are now lost on me… except one.  She brought her denim top over and was considering giving it away.  That officially began my denim crush.  It took a while to find the right one but it’s one of those pieces that I’m glad I searched for because it’s so perfect.  {Francesca’s, $38}

After convincing her to keep the denim top already in her closet, we were talking about ways to wear it.  I remember telling her to pair it with basically anything on bottom… shorts, skirt, pants… as long as they weren’t denim.

And since then I have eaten my words every time I turn around.  I swear, every magazine I flip through is featuring celebrities in solid denim.  {I sent her a few pictures and told her I was wrong… and she could totally rock denim on top and bottom!}

Here’s just one example…

 So I decided to give it a spin…

 When I decided to do the denim + denim thing, I envisioned light colored pants to go along with my light colored top.  And then when I got to my closet, I realized I didn’t have any.  So I went with the dark denim on bottom and I was ok with the outcome.  My suggestion is to wear really great shoes with this outfit.  Actually that’s my suggestion with every outfit.

  • Denim fashion always goes & is never out of style. Well done, looks cute on you. And i love the pretty yard setting behind you.
    xo, Luchessa.

    • Thanks! I never really think of my yard as being pretty but maybe it photographs well? Haha.

  • Carolyn Campbell (Grandmother)

    Claire, your blog is my dessert after breakfast. Can’t wait to look at it every morning. Love your denim shirt and the contrast of the dark jeans with it. Looks better than lighter one would to me. Love the shoes with it too. You light up the room and the outdoors with your countenance! (Of course I am not prejudice.)

    • I’m so glad you enjoy it so much, Grandmother! I love writing it and learning new things about the blogworld. I really appreciate all your encouragement!

  • I actually really love the light on top, dark on bottom look. I don’t like it as much when it’s really close to the same color on top and bottom. It’s nice to differentiate. lol! And yes, great shoes with everything! haha

    • Always great shoes! I would probably try light on bottom if I had any light jeans… but I don’t so I’ll just stick with the light + dark combo.

  • I love my chambray shirt! I’m a huge “I can’t wear blue and blue” person, but maybe I need to get out of that mindset

    • Yeah, I wasn’t going to either and then I kept seeing it all over the place so I knew I had to give it a chance. And I loved it!

    denim on denim is a nice combination, provided that top and bottom match (I don’t mean identical color) somehow, like your version where the top is lighter than the bottom. Last year I got a denim shirt as well, but it’s color is tricky and can only be combined with really dark bottoms!

    • Yeah, I’m enjoying the combination. Wear yours with the really dark denim on bottom, then!

  • Gotta love chambray anything!! I never really thought I’d be able to pull off the double denim look, but maybe I’ll give it a whirl! Also, is that your front porch?! It looks darling!

    • Yes, try it. I never thought I would either but it’s fun! And yes, that’s my porch. It has lots of potential but I haven’t done much with it. Good for pictures, I guess!

  • Aura

    How cool! I wore mine today with red skirt on bottom! Fabulous!

    • Love it! Work it, girl!
