The busy girl’s guide to refinishing furniture

The secret?  Spray paint.    My sister Kaitlyn is the master crafter.  She’s refinished so much furniture in her apartment.  Here’s her most recent project. Here’s Kaitlyn with her step by step tutorial. Hey guys!  I’m really excited to share what I did with this project because not only has it been a while since I’ve done a furniture re-do, but this is also one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever refinished.  I refer to myself a “lazy crafter” because I never do a project that takes long… keywords here are spray and paint! {What you’ll need} 1.  Ace Premium Enamel… Read More

Two ways to wear a leather jacket

Leather jackets are everywhere for fall and winter.  They’re everywhere because you can wear them with everything.  Today’s two ways to wear comes with a little twist.  Since I spent the weekend in Greenville with Kaitlyn, we decided to choose an item {enter the leather jacket} and each style it differently. Then we had a little fun with a photo shoot. {Kaitlyn’s look} black sequin shirt |distressed denim |green suede wedges {Claire’s look} white lace dress | black suede ankle boots The two ways to wear series is here. High five for Friday!

I love it when Friday rolls around because that means HELLO WEEKEND!  But first, here’s a look back at my favorite moments from this week.    We had supper club on Saturday night.  We ate homemade pizza, drank some wine and just hung out.  It’s always one of the highlights of my weekend when we have it. #loveoursupperclubpeople   Our Saturday night consisted of a big bowl of chili, a movie and our couch.   It was the perfect low-key night in.  We rarely have time to do that so it was perfect.  We watched The Fault in our Stars… Read More

Makeup must haves

If you were stranded on a deserted island, and could only bring 9 things with you… what would they be? Just kidding.  I wouldn’t bring all makeup.  Maybe just one.  But since there are no deserted islands around here… 1.  The Body Shop All in One Face Base.  If I could bring 9 things with me…  and if one was makeup, this is definitely my can’t-do-without item.  It covers but it’s lightweight.  It lasts all day.  It doesn’t end up oily after two hours.  It doesn’t end up oily after 12 hours.  I know because I’ve tested it.  I’m absolutely… Read More

Our {love} story

When people ask how David and I met and my response is “through mutual friends” I don’t think they expect the story that goes along with that.  Because meeting through mutual friends is normal.  Here’s our story. I went to High Point University and Megan was my RA turned friend.  I met her my freshman year and she was two years older and we were close all the way through her graduation.  And then we were still close after she left me.  We both had a love for sports so we would go do fun things like see Tennessee and Carolina… Read More

Two ways to wear a dress in fall + winter

I gotta tell you, two ways to wear is always my favorite post of the week.  I always enjoy thinking about a versatile piece in my closet and then doing a photo shoot.  Actually, two ways to wear originated with my graphic tee that I’m obsessed with and then it kind of evolved into a weekly post. But in the spirit of transparency, I struggled with this one.  I had a few ideas but they all seemed… too wintery.  Or too similar to something I had already done.  And then I decided that a transitional piece for now and the… Read More

House tour {the living room}

   I wish I had pictures of the transformation this room has undergone in 4 and a half years.  When we moved in, every room in our house was already painted a very light neutral.  Which I love in the kitchen, hallway, bedrooms, etc.  But the living room felt boring.  So I convinced my non-painting husband to help me paint the living room green.  Kelly green. Why that seemed like a good plan, I have no idea.  It didn’t take long before I was tired of it and then eventually I hated it.  With a passion.  So over spring break… Read More

High five for Friday

Friday is here which means the weekend is just around the corner!  We’re planning on having dinner with some of our best friends and then hoping to also have a chill movie night.  Ah, weekends are glorious aren’t they? This one has already been mentioned, but it’s worth mentioning again.  I was so frustrated with my Silhouette not working because I was so determined to make fall subway art.  And when I get something in my head and it doesn’t play out, I get really impatient.  Who better to call than Mom?  We seriously spent 4-6 hours working on it… Read More

Two ways to wear distressed denim

    Distressed denim is the perfect versatile piece.  I’m a fan of dressed-up denim… but dressed-up distressed denim?  Mmm… love it!  I love pairing it with a fancy blouse, some heels and jewelry for a night out.  But it’s also perfect with a tee and knotted hair. October goals

Check out my September goals here. Even after only one month of this monthly list, I have to tell you… I LOVE IT.  Even those of you who are not bloggers, you should totally do this.  It’s so motivating. Here’s a quick recap of how I did on my September goals. 1.  Devotions… check!  This one has been a game-changer.  Reading the bible and devotional books with David every morning before work has put us both in such a good place mentally and emotionally. 2.  New recipe… Yep!  Check out yesterday’s post.  Southwest chicken bake is delicious and it left… Read More
