How to tease your hair {and why it will change your life}

1.  Taking beauty pictures is a whole different game from fashion pictures.  It’s much harder.
2.  Kudos to those of you who do it on the reg.
3.  If I look high in these pictures, it’s just because the flash was making my eyes look funky.  #nodrugsneeded
4.  One of my favorite things about blogging has been getting involved in other blogs and seeing how someone else lives life.  I’ve gotten beauty tips, recipes, fashion inspiration and so much more.  Sometimes once I see how someone else does it and I try it, I make it a part of my lifestyle.  So in case you’re in a hair rut… try this out!

Ok, first… why will teasing your hair change your life?  Because you don’t have to wash your hair every day and you can still have volume.

I used to shower every single day.  And then I discovered dry shampoo.  And teasing.  And I have since realized that I actually like my hair more now than I did when I was washing it every day.  Not to mention… I save so much time every day, every week.

{Bear with me on the pictures, remember?}

{STEP ONE}

Start with freshly brushed hair.  If it’s greasy, throw some dry shampoo up in there.

{STEP TWO}

Tease the roots.  Do this pulling a section of hair {1-2 inches in circumference} and going up and down with your comb.  I tease 1-2 inches starting with the root and moving out toward the  end.  I tease approximately seven different hair groupings.

{If this makes no sense, it’s because I’m watching the Grammy’s and listening to David and my mom – via speakerphone – do statistics homework for his grad school assignment.}

I mean, how beautiful does that look?  I still remember the first time David ever saw me do this to my hair… he walked in the room and was like, “WHAT are you doing?!”  Usually he’s already gone when I’m getting ready.

{STEP THREE}

As soon as I’ve teased to my heart’s content, I go through with the opposite end of the comb and start smoothing down.  {If you don’t have a cool comb like mine, you can do it with your fingers.}

Once I get it where I want it, I spray some hairspray and go.

Here’s my after picture…

I use this as the basis for pretty much any hairstyle.  When I put it in a ponytail or messy bun, I do this first.  When I curl it, I do this first so that the crown isn’t flat against my head.  And pretty much 90% of days, I wear it down and straight… mostly because that’s easiest.

And if these pictures don’t convince you to give it a try… it’s completely understandable; but in all fairness, I did warn you ahead of time.  So don’t let my horrible beauty modeling hold you back from something so life-changing.

What’s your go-to beauty secret?

  • Girl, you are speaking my language! I tease my hair all the time. It’s so thin and has absolutely NO volume, I envy the girls who naturally have voluminous hair.

    • Meeeeee too. Since I don’t have natural volume, I just have to fake it!

  • I use hair powder a lot and sometimes tease, sometimes not. It depends on how lazy I am!

    • What type of hair powder do you use? Does it have the same effect as dry shampoo? Because I live by that stuff!

  • I do tease my hair also but not so often… I feel like I’m damaging it and then it’s so much harder to wash/dry.
    I love to give my hair volume the third day when there is no volume left and I don’t want to wash the hair..

    • I use to worry about damaging my hair too but my hair girl said it’s fine. So I kind of took that and ran with it!

  • Teasing your hair is definitely a life changer. My hair is so fine that if i don’t it just sticks to my head. What dry shampoo do you use? I’m trying so hard not to wash my hair every day but my hair gets so greasy that I haven’t found a dry shampoo that I like yet. Help!
